Fine-tuning diagnostic checks in Visual BACnet

Visual BACnet update diagnostic checks

Our developers have been hard at work updating Visual BACnet, and we’re excited to share these changes with you. Read on for some key updates we’ll be rolling out over the next two weeks!

The two most important adjustments are:

  1. We’ve gotten rid of the “Max Networks Exceeded” diagnostic check. As a result of this, some of your Network Health Scores may change slightly if you are reprocessing old files. You can still see the number of networks in the file on the summary screen under “Statistics Summary.”

  2. The diagnostic checks are now in order of criticality on the summary screen. Before, you had to click on the Network Health Score to view these checks in order of criticality. Now, we’ve taken out that extra step and put them in order of importance on the summary screen. Simply start at the top and work your way down to solve problems!

We are also rolling out many more changes, some today and some at the end of the month. Here are the changes that are live as of today:

  • The diagnostic checks are now in order of criticality on the summary screen.

  • The Global Who-Is diagnostic check no longer includes segmented Who-Is messages.

  • The Confirmed-COV and Unconfirmed-COV diagnostic checks now include columns with the Present Value and Object.

  • The Missing ACKs diagnostic check now has a column showing what percentage of the time the acknowledgment has not been sent between those two devices.

  • The Max Networks Exceeded diagnostic check has been eliminated.

  • The Error Response diagnostic check now includes the error reason in the drill down.

  • We’re updating the source and destination fields in a few of the diagnostic checks so that they are more consistent across the tool.

Is BACnet/SC the Key to Securing OT Networks?

The success of BACnet/SC will depend on how widely it is adopted and how well it integrates with other security technologies. That said, with the right implementation strategies, and a focus on maintaining flexibility and interoperability, BACnet/SC has the potential to play a central role in securing OT networks against future threats.
