Optigo Networks took home the award for Marketing Excellence in the “Marketing on a Shoestring” category, at the annual BC American Marketing Association (BCAMA) Awards on February 8th. The only tech company nominated in a crowd of marketing agencies, B2C companies, and non-profit organizations, Optigo was a glowing representative for the Vancouver tech community.
“We are honoured to have been recognized amongst such powerhouse marketing agencies and departments,” said Monica McMahen, Optigo’s Director of Marketing. “It was surreal being the only tech company among major agencies and consumer marketing corporations at the gala. This is not an arena where tech companies are often recognized, and it made the award extra special.”
The BCAMA’s “Marketing on a Shoestring” category is a prestigious award for powerful marketing campaigns that work within a budget of $25,000. It recognizes creative solutions that maximize returns without maxing out budgets. Past winners have included COBS Bread (2016) the Vancouver Convention Centre and Tourism Vancouver (2017). Optigo was a finalist alongside Cossette. This is the first time that a tech company has won the award.
This award was a recognition of Optigo’s work uniting and empowering universities across North America. Through their Software as a Service (SaaS) product, Visual BACnet, Optigo works with many university and corporate campuses. Over the years, Optigo realized that different universities deal with similar problems, but do not work together to share solutions. From 2017–18, Optigo created a wealth of content to connect, educate, and inspire facility managers at post-secondary institutions, and even hosted an event at Princeton University. These efforts brought disparate groups together and furthered Optigo’s vision, without exhausting the marketing budget.
This recognition from marketing peers comes on the heels of Optigo Networks receiving the Rising Star Award from BACnet International on January 14, 2019. The award was industry recognition of Optigo’s role in educating and inspiring the smart building community through whitepapers, webinars, and other content.
These two awards honour Optigo’s efforts to empower and educate the building automation industry, tech communities, and the world at large about smart building technology.
