Edge vs. cloud” is the debate everyone in building automation expects to be a fight. In Episode 8 of How to Handshake, it turned into something more useful.
We sat down with Andrew Rodgers (Co-Founder, ACE IoT Solutions) and Aaron Brondrum (Sr. Director of Business Development, Neeve) — two people building genuinely different edge approaches, one open-source, one secure edge-to-cloud. Both are pro-edge. Neither would take the bait on “which one wins.”
What they landed on instead is the part worth your time:
– The edge-vs-cloud choice is usually about your organization’s capacity to manage it, not raw technical limits.
– Building automation has always been “edge.” What’s new is decoupling the hardware from the software.
– The real shift for system integrators mirrors what happened in IT 15 years ago: transform toward managed services, or become an installer.
