Webinar: Advanced BACnet Troubleshooting With Wireshark

Advanced troubleshooting BACnet Wireshark

We had a great time chatting with Greg Holloway, Tech Support and Wireshark Guru at Delta Controls, about the bits and bytes of Wireshark.

BACnet networks can be brought down by excessive traffic, devices sending errors, and hundreds of other variables. Luckily, Wireshark can help identify the troublemaker devices and root causes of network problems.

We had a great time chatting with Greg Holloway, Tech Support and Wireshark Guru at Delta Controls, about the bits and bytes of Wireshark. Greg had some fantastic tips for navigating the tool.

The webinar started off with a review of Wireshark functions and tricks for filtering through packets (catch that at around 7 minutes in). From there, we talked about different problems that you can resolve with Wireshark, including circular networks, duplicate BBMDs, and MS/TP token disruptions (skip ahead to Greg’s troubleshooting advice at around 19 minutes in). We dove into questions and some final tips and tricks to finish off the webinar (at around 50 minutes in).

If you’d like to practice with the PCAPS we used in the webinar, you can download the files from our online folder.

How OT Networks Drive Decarbonization and Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is at the heart of many organizations’ policies to address their overall carbon footprints. For facilities operators, campus managers, and their vendors, the drive to decarbonize falls under their purview. Let’s look at what exactly decarbonization is, what impacts this policy has on OT networks, and some of the ways facilities and systems integrators have begun to tackle the problem.

Is BACnet/SC the Key to Securing OT Networks?

The success of BACnet/SC will depend on how widely it is adopted and how well it integrates with other security technologies. That said, with the right implementation strategies, and a focus on maintaining flexibility and interoperability, BACnet/SC has the potential to play a central role in securing OT networks against future threats.
